I think that this may also signal the end of ANY future Star Trek merchandise coming from mainstream toy companies.  If Mattel can't make this work..........However, perhaps the Trek universe is better served by the "boutique" toy companies that focus on quality, and market to the hardcore collectors, rather than the mass market.   This I can tell you, I was totally disappointed about the lack of Trek product during this past movie cycle.

Okay so Part of me thinks that Eaglemoss kinda stole their thunder on that. I mean Mattel was he only ones doing things of that nature, but with the detail that Eaglemoss is putting out it is possible that they just decided against it. I could be completely wrong, but you never know.

Yeah, Hasbro packed up the SW Titanium Series when DeAgostini did their SW ships partwork... but I doubt it had much of an influence of the decision to axe it, TBH.

If both were available, I think a lot of us would buy all of the EMs and all the HWs, anyway.  :)

Received this on the 2nd.  It's over:

Thank you for posting that, Whirly. I had a hunch that the re-release wave had been axed along with the others. A lot of folks who didn't get the Costco set are gonna be pissed.

For those of us who did, it's great that Mattel gave us all of those new 2013 toolings in one wave. The original plan was to roll them out slowly in waves of (mostly) repacks. Plus, it was a great wave. Classy way to go out.

Totally agree that massive mainstream toy companies are ill-suited for Trek merchandising. The market is too small, too niche-y, they need big numbers to make their manufacturing/sales model work. Yeah, the big retailers rejected the 1/50 ships this time around. Seems that Trek is still in the doghouse since the 2009 Playmates pegwarming debacle.

I had the opposite experience with Trek merch this year. For a small ship collector like me, it's been a banner year. We got ships from Eaglemoss, Wizkids, Running Press, Hallmark, Hot Wheels, AA/DST, Hasbro, and QMx. :)

Star Trek toys in the UK were nie-on impossible to get at big high street retailers... Toys R Us? nope... Supermarkets like TESCO or ASDA WallMart? nope... I remember Star Trek toys being all over the place in the 90's... Micro-Machines, Playmates... The trouble is Star Trek stagnated with a generation brought up on TNG... fans like me. Now I'm not saying thats a bad thing at all, I think there should be more shows for older people and Star Trek fits the bill but when the studio's are confusing things by getting big mainstream toy companies onboard to produce mass market toys, you'd expect the studio to market and make Star Trek for the audiences who'll go and buy toys...

Kids aren't interested in Star Trek anymore! Without the kids buying or wanting Trek toys, what hope do they have at succeeding. Paramount/CBS need to determine what it is they believe Star Trek should be because right now I think their trying to have their cake and eat it... making movies every so often rated 12a and far too adult-themed for kids to get into yet wanting Hasbro to produce toys that will hopefully sell to them? No...

Star Trek either needs to become something more family friendly or it needs a studio accepting that it's a bit more of a niche brand ideally suited to older audience members. You wouldn't see NCIS action figures in Toys R Us or Breaking Bad figures next to the LEGO... DST are the perfect company to produce toys for Trek due to their appeal with the adult collector as well as being fun for the casual fan and perhaps the teenager who's old enough to appreciate Trek.

VERY well said, I totally agree. Now if a new series comes out or something then mayyyybe it might get more recognition with kids, to watch it every week, but even then Trek has changed over the years, as well as the toy scene. Kids aren't playing with them as much, it is more about the video games these days ya know, not so much the action figures.

For those interested, this site has a good amount of the Hot Wheels Retro Entertainment Abramsprise.  I've ordered from them in the past and they're pretty reliable.

Got two of the retro Enterprise, not seen'em yet though as they're in Raleigh. Aren't they just better painted versions of the regular HW small E? I considered getting KITT as well, and the Flintmobile,LOL! And since I got the BSG Viper I should probably get the Cylon Raider as well. I like this line, lot of fun stuff there.

The only difference I see with this E vs last years is the nacelles have paint. Other then that I think they're the same, unless this one is slightly bigger? I don't think so though since my BTTF Retro Delorean looks about the same as my normal ones.

One HW I will be looking for soon is The Homer,LOL!

That's gonna be a little harder. Only places I've seen the HW stuff is in various comic stores, like MIdtown Comics in New York,TFAW in Portland and L.A.,and Meltdown Comics and Golden Apple in L.A. Also Blast from the Past and Big Kid in L.A. Some fun stuff in that line.

Mattel did a crapy job of getting Star Trek product out to brick and mortar retailers.  I can't tell you how many bins of Hot Wheels that I rummaged through at Walmart and Target only to come up empty.  I had money to spend and got paid back in frustration!

Wal-Mart carries the retro line.  But if you live in a place where toys tend to move slowly you will likely find the pegs being warmed by all the retros nobody cared about, preventing any of the newer waves from coming in.  The last wave I have seen is the one with the BSG Viper.  If the wave would come in I'm sure I could find at least one but I haven't even seen the BSG Raider wave yet.  I need that too.  :(

I may have seen a few retros at TRU (far less than Wal-Mart) but I do know that no Target I've been to carries them.

I want the retro jjprise just because I have bought everything in that line that has interested me, and the paint makes it nicer/different than the 99 cent one...but be warned, man that rubbery nacelle plastic has a NASTY odor.

I've also been able to find the retro stuff I've wanted (BTTF Delorean & KITT) and would love the Viper and Raider as well but every store always has the same thing. I wish Hot Wheels sold these things individually online.... They'd make way more money I'd think.

Has anyone had any luck in finding the Retro Enterprise? I've been looking but haven't had any luck.

A local friend grabbed the Retro Ent for me at Target; I only saw one on the pegs (at WM) and the nacelles looked a bit crushed together (inside an unblemished package) so I had to pass on it. It ain't really worth five times the HW Imagination ones' price, IMHO... so I'd strongly advise against paying too much/getting hosed for one.

I got the Viper cheap at Toy Peddler and I found a few Raiders at WM. The Raider's the best in the line, IMHO.

Found these guys at Rainbow, now I have both normal and battle damaged.

Honestly wasn't expecting to find them since hot wheels has been rolling out their new lines.
