To those that want to use the sanding method instead of mineral spirits, be sure you WET sand the text off. Doing it dry can cause scratches.

Looking forward to it, thanks man! (Sorry for being pushy!)

EDIT: (because no post of mine is complete without one!)

I just found this visual explanation of the Tampo printing process.

I don't even want to think about how complex it must have been to use any of those methods on the insane organic shape of the Enterprise-E.

Ooh, thanks for that, I've always wondered how they did that (though not enough to look it up).

Well I inquired to BBTS when they'd get theirs in they said late February since that gives me some time to try and run some sales cause I got 3 things on Pre-Order to pay for at the end of the month[Including the Enterprise E] I swear at the end of this month I'll be glad there's only two things next month...

When I get the E I'm gonna make sure I get some really good pictures of it for the review and probably compare it to the previous Enterprise Es that I have.

Here you go :

Like I said, I don't think there's enough windows on this thing, lol.

^Where I circled in Red, these windows WERE NOT MOLDED IN like on the other side, this is likely an error as there is no other place on the entire ship where the windows were asymmetrical, so I had to draw them in by hand, and unless you're looking at it up close like in this picture, they look good when viewed normally, like this :

See? Not too shabby, lol.

A Black Gundam Marker makes for awesome results :

And, the whole result :

Basically, you're getting a model that can nearly compete with a pro built version, and is better than many so called "pro built" versions I've seen for sale on Ebay. And all for $57 USD shipped. smile.gif

I don't even want to think about how complex it must have been to use any of those methods on the insane organic shape of the Enterprise-E.

The "roller" method seems the most logical for the application of the Aztec pattern until one realizes that the ship isn't flat, even when it's in pieces on a flat surface. The stamp method would be insane for anything other than stuff like the pennants and ship's registry, although it's quite possible that DST might have had to use it if the factory couldn't devise a way to have the rollers move with the curvature of the ship for the application of the Aztec pattern. I definitely feel for whomever had to figure out how to print that thing onto the Enterprise–E though; heck, I remember professional decal designers having trouble accurately recreating that pattern for use as decals.

EDIT: (Kyp's post came in while I was writing mine.) Awesome photos, Kyp! Regarding the asymmetrical winows, I actually think those might be accurate. I'd have to look at a diagram or two to be sure, but even the highly symmetrical Enterprise–D had an asymmetrical set of shuttle/cargo bays on the "neck" slope, and I seem to remember another otherwise symmetrical Enterprise having a similar set of asymmetrical windows, so it's certainly possible that this is correct. Don't hold me to that though; I need to look at a decent diagram of the big "E," but as you said, it's not really noticeable, and unpainted, I doubt anyone would have found it in the first place. Definitely not a big deal, and I completely agree with you that this ship can compete with pro built models. ;)

Wow, that looks amazing! I've got a black Gundam marker for panel lines on the way to me from HobbySearch, and I will certainly be marking in the windows as well. I love how it finishes off the look. Was originally only thinking to do it to the original release of the E, but this one benefits from it as well.

Actually, you can argue against marking in the windows by just assuming that this model is showing the ship in Red Alert mode by saying that there's hull colored blast shields closed over the crew quarters and observations windows. wink.gif

That looks great, i wonder if it is too much for DST to paint the windows on the next Ent-e ship?

Mine arrives Monday from Entertainment Earth. I also have a black fine tipped Gundam marker on order from China, but that will be delayed due to the Chinese new year and also customs.

LT CMDR DATA, to be honest, I'd prefer that DST doesn't paint the windows on the Enterprise

Thanks Alex, just wondering but true I can just paint them myself. As for the ent-b the windows are painted I have mines and I can see there is no molded windows.
